PBPC Welcomes Smith, Robbins Selections for Key USDA Roles
Aug. 11, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Plant Based Products Council Executive Director James Glueck released a statement following the nomination of Glen Smith to serve as USDA’s Under Secretary for Rural Development and the appointment of Neal Robbins to serve as Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development.
“We are excited to see USDA announce Glen Smith and Neal Robbins to lead its Rural Development work, which includes efforts essential to the success of the U.S. ag bioeconomy,” said Glueck. “PBPC appreciates both individuals’ willingness to serve in these important roles. The bioeconomy represents a great growth opportunity for American agriculture, and USDA Rural Development can play a leadership role in shaping policies to drive economic success across the country.
“Smith’s financial acumen and production agriculture background make him well-positioned to offer critical guidance as the Trump Administration seeks to strengthen rural America. The department will benefit greatly from his business savvy and farmer-focused experience, and we urge the Senate to work quickly to ensure his confirmation.
“Additionally, we look forward to working with Robbins, who brings firsthand manufacturing experience and economic development expertise to promote an atmosphere of growth for companies seeking to invest in the future of American biomanufacturing.”
