PBPC Applauds Bipartisan Introduction of the Biomanufacturing and Jobs Act in the House and Senate

Bipartisan, bicameral legislation critical to the future of the ag bioeconomy is awaiting action on Capitol Hill.

Last month, the Biomanufacturing and Jobs Act, a bipartisan measure to expand America’s bioeconomy and modernize the USDA’s BioPreferred Program, was reintroduced in the House and Senate. Sponsors in the Senate include: Sens. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Pete Ricketts (R-NE). In the House, the bill is sponsored by Reps. Mark Alford (R-MO), Angie Craig (D-MN), Mark Messmer (R-IN), Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI), and Brad Finstad, (R-MN).

The Biomanufacturing and Jobs Act will strengthen and expand the BioPreferred Program by establishing uniform terminology for bioproducts, refining federal procurement standards, increasing outreach and education, and ensuring that federal agencies can more effectively recognize and utilize biobased products. These updates will help open new markets for American farmers, create good-paying jobs, and support the growth of domestic manufacturing.

PBPC applauds the bipartisan leadership in both chambers to advance this legislation and is proud to support the Biomanufacturing and Jobs Act as a critical step toward accelerating U.S. biomanufacturing, driving rural economic growth, and reinforcing America’s leadership in innovation. Share your support for these critical pieces of legislation on PBPC.com.

Plant-Based Leaders Blog: Gevo

In our latest Plant-Based Leaders blog, we spotlight Gevo, a pioneer in renewable fuels and chemicals and a proud member of PBPC. Gevo is advancing the next generation of sustainable solutions by turning crops like corn into low-carbon building blocks for products we use every day — from plastics and paints to adhesives, durable goods, and even sustainable aviation fuel.

Through its Verity traceability platform, Gevo brings transparency and accountability to the supply chain, helping farmers showcase regenerative practices and ensuring customers can trust every claim. With partnerships spanning agriculture and global manufacturing, Gevo is demonstrating how “agriculture done right” can scale renewable chemicals, strengthen rural economies, and reduce carbon intensity across industries.

Bioplastics Week

Bioplastics Week is coming up! Bioplastics Week is an annual social media campaign led by the Plastics Industry Association to raise awareness about the role of bioplastics in driving a more sustainable future. Taking place Oct. 20–26, the campaign will highlight the benefits of biobased and biodegradable plastics, showcase innovations across industries, and share how these products support the circular bioeconomy.

PBPC is proud to join the conversation and spotlight how plant-based solutions are creating new markets for U.S. farmers and building a more resilient manufacturing sector.

Follow along with #BioplasticsWeek to learn more about the latest developments and opportunities in bioplastics.

On the Ground with NatureWorks

PBPC staff recently toured a NatureWorks facility — one of PBPC’s members and a global leader in biopolymers made from biobased resources.

The visit offers a firsthand look at how NatureWorks is turning plants into innovative, low-carbon materials used in packaging, consumer goods, and more. PBPC is proud to highlight the leadership of our members and the real-world impact of plant-based innovation.

Say Hello to PBPC at Bio Innovations Midwest

PBPC is proud to lead a panel discussion at Bio Innovations Midwest on how diverse feedstocks are powering the U.S. bioeconomy. The session, “Scaling Products from a Diversity of Feedstocks to Power Up the U.S. Bioeconomy,” will explore how innovators are using agriculture feedstocks, ranging from corn and soy to seaweed and potatoes, consumer demand for biobased products.

Hosted by PBPC Executive Director James Glueck, the conversation will feature leaders from PBPC member companies Braskem, Loliware, BioLogiq, and Sustainea. Together, they’ll highlight how feedstock diversity, collaboration, and investment can unlock new markets, strengthen supply chains, and meet the growing demand for biobased materials.

Let us know if you’ll be at Bio Innovations Midwest — we’d love to connect!

PBPC to Join BPI Panel Discussion

PBPC Manager of Bioproducts Policy Sydney VandeMeulebroecke will join three other panelists for a conversation at the upcoming Biodegradable Products Institute’s annual Summit Sept. 16-18 in Atlanta.

The discussion, titled “Interconnected Policies Needed to Achieve True Systems Change for Composting,” will explore the policy components, beyond passing legislation, that are critical to driving meaningful systems change.

PBPC will highlight the status of the Global Plastic Pollution Treaty, its implications for composting infrastructure and bioproduct design, and how these align with PBPC’s policy priorities. We’ll also share insights from our consumer data to help contextualize the conversation. Together, the panelists will connect the dots between global, federal, and state-level policies shaping the future of composting and sustainable materials.
