Spencer Chase
Senior Director of Communications
Spencer Chase is the Senior Director of Communications for the Plant Based Products Council, where he leads the organization’s media outreach and strategic external communications. In this role, Spencer serves as the staff representative for the organization’s Communications Committee.
Before joining PBPC, Spencer spent a decade as an award-winning journalist for Agri-Pulse Communications, a leading agriculture, environmental and food policy publication. As the company’s Managing Editor, Spencer coordinated coverage by the team of journalists in Washington, Sacramento, and across the country of news and events critical to farm policy.
Spencer was instrumental in the launching of several new programs at Agri-Pulse including the DriveTime podcast, a daily recap of farm policy news, and Newsmakers, a weekly program featuring comments from leading voices in agriculture and politics. He traveled frequently for his work, reporting from six countries and 25 states.
Spencer was an active leader in the National Association of Farm Broadcasting, including serving for five years on the organization’s Board of Directors and as NAFB President in 2022. Spencer’s coverage was recognized by NAFB with the organization’s 2020 Doan Award, which was awarded for his role in the Deep Dive on Dairy podcast. Spencer was also the recipient of NAFB’s 2017 Horizon Award, which is given to rising professionals in the farm broadcasting industry.
Spencer grew up on his family’s diversified crop and livestock farm in eastern South Dakota. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in broadcast and news editorial journalism from South Dakota State University, where he was an active member of FarmHouse Fraternity and a student coach on the Jackrabbit football team.
