Plant Based Products Celebrates USDA’s Second Annual National Biobased Products Day

March 8, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Plant Based Products Council joins the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in celebrating the second annual National Biobased Products Day. The awareness day recognizes biobased products and highlights the positive impact and progress of the industry in expanding job opportunities, investing in rural communities, inspiring innovative and circular solutions, strengthening global competitiveness, and driving towards a more sustainable future.

National Biobased Products Day is an opportunity to celebrate USDA’s BioPreferred® Program, aimed at increasing the use and purchase of biobased products by federal agencies and a voluntary labeling initiative for promoting biobased products in the marketplace. This program highlights the biobased and plant-based industries, educating consumers on biobased products and their many benefits.

“The impact of the plant-based products industry – not only on sustainability progress but on economic growth, market opportunity for growers, and increased innovation across the country – cannot be overstated,” said James Glueck, PBPC’s Executive Director. “In celebration of National Biobased Products Day, PBPC is proud to highlight the work across the plant-based products value chain and the workforce and communities that power it. Through our ongoing partnership with USDA and the BioPreferred® program, PBPC continues our commitment to expanding biobased products and driving the bioeconomy towards a more sustainable future.”
